The number 7 album of all time and the number one Rolling Stones album and the two singles are 'Happy' and 'Tumbling Dice.' It really is amazing how a double album by one of the biggest bands in history can produce so few 'hits' on it and yet still be soooo enjoyable and great. It's not even dated, though you can hear the loose herion induced swagger of 1970s excess all over it. I don't think that any band has ever sounded so loose as the Stones do on this record. The album is a house of cards waiting to fall apart any second, at the same time doesn't seem possible to fall apart no matter how far they push the limits of time and space. BTW, is it just me or did ZZ Top left that lick from 'Shake Your Hips' for 'La Grange' which came out just a year later... Seems pretty close.
Anyway, this is an ALBUM in the truest sense. Every track is great and it all just plays together perfectly.

dean squishman - I first heard this album at a fourth of July party 20 years ago. Long after the fireworks had shot off and people were calling it a night our host put this on and the party took on a new life. In the years since then I have seen this album play a similar role late at night when a party is starting to wind down . This music starts up, another round of drinks are poured and the next thing you know it's like 3am and thoughts of doing anything but nursing a hang over the next day have gone out the window. Exile on Main street is the life of the party that shows up like oxygen at a fire at the beginning and is who you wake up leaning next to on the couch later on. An absolute solid pick for the top ten of this list.
