When I first heard this album, I think I was in 4th or 5th grade and an avid Kiss fan. I didn't get it. I grew up in New Jersey. The Boss was a god. Everyone talked about how great he was. He didn't wear make up or breath fire, seemed pretty boring. Of course Bruce was siging about a bunch of stuff that I was too young to understand (so was Kiss, but they looked cooler doing it, at least to an 8 year old) It really took me moving out of Jersey to really appreciate Bruce. Now it pains me to think about all of that time that I wasted not listening to him and this brilliant masterpiece of a record. If anyone actually were to manipualte this list, there is no doubt that this would have to be a head of Nevermind.
This album is like the soundtrack to Rock and Roll. It talks about Girls and cars and love and loss, breaking out and being free. When you finally have a friend that drives and you take off and can go anywhere. That is the sound of this record. Bruce's ability to capture all of this and write an anthem like Born To Run and not sound contrived and pretensious is pure songwriting genius. I could go on and on about this album, but why, it speaks for itself.
