On any given day you could ask me what my favorite Bob Dylan album is and you would get a different answer. The main contenders are Highway 61, Bringing it All Back Home, Love and Theft, and this one. This album was born from a very personal place. It is intimate, passionate and hateful. It pretty much covers all of the emotions you go through during a break up. It may be the best break up album. Songs like 'If You See Her, Say Hello' and 'Idiot Wind.' Then of course there is the wild and wonderful 'Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts' Seriously, how do you write that? Genius.
When I was a young tyke, I remember avoiding this album while I was amassing my Dylan collection. I had never heard of it and didn't recognize any of the tracks on it. When I did buy it I thought I had stumbled across some hidden gem. The best kept secret in all of music. I was sure that no had ever heard this brilliant, magnificent record and I was in on it. Oh well, stupid kid.
