Ah Jimi. I am not sure what to think of Jimi Hendrix. Guitar god, sure. He took the instrument places no one ever thought of before. Guitar rock changed in his wake and was never the same. This album is so enjoyable start to finish it is incredable. Every once in a while it sounds dated and not effective, but for the most part it still rocks. I have always been on the side that Jimi is over rated. He has his style and that's it. He never really brached out and his carrer was really short. If he had lived would he have coninued to grow or did do we have the best he could do? Not sure, but this is still essential music. There are many people who have covered these songs, but no one can come close to sounding like Jimi, he just had a touch that can't be imitated. The closest would have to be Stevie Ray Vaughn. Mainly because Stevie had the same type of connection to his instrument. He could just speak through it, like you or I talk.
