Blending modern pop music with native African rhythms and instruments sounds like a very intriguing idea. Unless you don't care for African music. Such was my case when this was released. I didn't really understand it or like it. I liked Paul Simon OK and Simon and Garfunkel, but I didn't really get that far into either at that point in my life. As I got older I liked Paul Simon more and more. At this point in my life, I consider him one of the very best song writers ever. He is clearly a genius, whatever you may think of him personally. I also got exposed to real African music and decided that I actually really liked it. I have heard a decent diversity of it from pop artist to classic world music and jazz. This allowed to hear this album with a different ear. If you asked me I would have thought that this should have worked in reverse. Paul should have been my gateway to Africa, but it turned out differently.
