Great news!! After a few years of study and practice and classes, I have received my certification from the Professional Photographers of America. It is a great honor and achievement. This has been a goal of mine for over 10 years, but I needed to focus on building a sustainable business first before I could spend the time and attention to this goal.
12 years ago Jen and I started this business, we knew focusing on schools would be a great way to have a strong foundation and build our loyal customer base as well as increasing our skills. It has been an amazing journey and one of the best things I have ever done for myself. Our jobs are challenging, rewarding, exciting and fun. It has taken us to locations all over the country too, Florida, Colorado, Nashville, New Orleans, Wisconsin, Ohio, New York, New Jersey and Washington.
After all of this, I decided it was time to start working on photography. Really working on photography. I wanted to offer a better product to our customers. I wanted to present them with images and wall art that they would treasure for generations. To do this I spent the last 2 years taking prep classes, attending seminars, workshops and meetings. I have worked on lighting, posing, color theory and tech gear. Now I have achieved the first big step in that journey, CPP (Certified Professional Photographer).
This certification comes from the largest nonprofit trade association for professional photographers in the world, The Professional Photographers of America (PPA). In addition to various certifications and awards, they offer training, insurance and support for photographers of all levels. In addition to the PPA, I am also a member of PPNC, The Professional Photographers of North Carolina which is a state affiliate of PPA and offer their own set of trainings and workshops, certifications and awards. Finally, along with all of our staff here at J and S, I am a member of PST, The Photographic Society of the Triangle. PST is also a local affiliate of PPA and offers monthly meetings and trainings.
These three organizations have filled up my calendar with tons of things to do. Let the journey begin!
