Rolling Stone's Top 500 Albums: 68 - Off the Wall
It's really amazing that something can be this dated and this timeless at the same time. When you put Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson together I guess that's what you get. The moment at the end of She's Out of My Life when Michael's voice breaks and quivers is one of my favorite moments ever recorded. The first time I heard that I was just blown away. It was the first time (I was quite young at the time) that I remember truly being moved by a recording.
As for the rest of the record, of course this is amazing. This is his best album next to Thriller. Actually, I prefer this one to Thriller. It just hits me in better way, but that's really a personal choice. In truth, I am no big fan of Michael's. It's not the type of thing I just pop in and listen too. But there is no denying the groove going on here and the sheer virtuosity of both the performances and the production.
