So...my cousin is one of those people who are always looking for something different in music. You know the type, they don't like the mainstream artists, because they are too common. They want to find those undiscovered gems. I can be like this too. When I first heard Coldplay, years ago, I listened to them for about 15 seconds and quickly decided that this was not for me. They are a whinny, deppressing band that seem to attract the type of people who think they are hip just because they listen to them. A few weeks ago I heard the song 'The Scientist' in a movie and thought , "That's a pretty cool track." So I did what anyone else would do, punched up the music search ap on my phone and it came up as Coldplay. Well, now I guess I like Coldplay.
After listening to a few more tracks, I can now say that I am a fan. I watched their concert from 2012 on Netflix and they actually seem a lot happier on stage than they do in the studio too. Which really helped. They remind me of a modern day Pink Floyd, just a bit more poppy.
I guess my point in this, aside from go check out some Coldplay, is that sometimes you can find new music right under your nose in the mainstream. You don't have to go digging through hours and hours of crappy stuff that no one likes just to find the one artist that you can call a hidden gem. You just need to keep an open mind and check it all out.
